That's what my kids call marbles. Marballs makes more sense I guess. Tati has been a big marble fan in her life but we've had to put them in quarantine lately because Gavin really enjoys eating them. Almost every time we go to the $ store, that is what she asks for. She actually has my old Smurfette lunch box FULL of them. She also had a glass bead collection but then we got our rock table so they were transplanted there. Anyway, just recently, Chloe has been showing a ton of interest in marbles. They've even started to play marbles at recess. It's all because of her principal.
One day at school, he brought his giant marble collection from when he was young and went classroom by classroom showing it off. He also invited all the kids to bring some marbles to school the following day because he would be teaching everybody how to play at recess. What a great idea, right? He's a really great guy. Anyway, it took off like wild fire. Chloe has been playing off and on and just taking her marbles to school in little change purses or ziplocs but she kept complaining to me how she wished she had some marbles of her own---since she had to keep borrowing marbles from Tati (who is kind of a marble tyrant). On Friday, Tati and I decided that we'd surprise Chloe with her own marbles. Tati even helped me pay for them out of her piggy bank. We bought them at the $ store. It was cute how excited she was for Chloe to have some marbles of her own. Chloe was super stoked. Then this weekend, I made her even more happy by making her her very own marble bag.

I also made one for her BFF, Corbin. He was over the other day and she was asking him the names of all her new marbles. It was hilarious to me how quickly he's become an expert. Like there's a yellow and black striped one. Corbin says, "That's a tiger marble". Then there's a black and green striped one, "Oh, that's a dragon eye." I'm like, "Wow, this kid is good." Then she holds up a white one, "That's a Pearly". She holds up a yellow one, "That's a yellow-y". Wait. What? And it went on from there. Corbin may very well be a marble expert but then again apparently so could I. He and Chloe explained the games to me:
Dropsies: The first person drops their marble on the floor. The second and however many after tried to drop their marble on top it it. If you're standing, the marble has to be at least as high as your belly button, if you're on the ground, it needs to be from your nose.
Flicksies: This is just like "dropsies" only instead of dropping it, you flick it.
Keepsies: If you win, you keep the other person's marble.
Funsies: Win or lose, you keep your marbles. This one is especially good when you are using your really special ones.
These are really the only ones that Chloe has played. Here is the
full article if you want to read more about it.
And while I was at it, I also made Tati a pixie dust bag just like Izzie from Jake & the Neverland Pirates.
She's been asking me for one for months and since I was on a roll, I decided to go for it. I really like this cartoon but it annoys me that Disney made all these kids have pig noses. No offense to people with pig noses.
The girls discovered a great way to be able to look at their marbles was to put a towel on a cookie sheet. Here are their collections:
